As part of the preparation for the July 16, 2022, gubernatorial election in Osun state the police have started raiding black spots to ensure a violence-free exercise.

“Osun State Police Command has embarked on raiding of black spots within the state to fish out criminal elements perpetrating crime in the state” a statement issued on Saturday, July 2, 2022, stated.

The statement further revealed that the move has started yielding results with the arrest of “18 suspected criminals.”

The suspects are “currently undergoing interrogation” according to the Osun state police command.

This information puts a glaring light on an attempt to “politicize” police work ahead of the Osun gubernatorial election.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that the Osun state police command made the move as a form of pre-emptive strategy that sends a strong signal to all stakeholders on its preparedness to ensure a violence-free election and curb electoral malpractice.

The police also revealed the arrest of a corp member attached to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as an Ad-Hoc staff in charge of voters card distribution for illegally collecting the PVC (permanent voters card) of another person on behalf of people at large.

The corps member attached to the INEC office located in Atakumosa West Local Government Area, Osu, Osun State allegedly carried out the illegal act for financial gain.

The police apprehended the suspect based on a complaint made at its Osu division by the victim of the action of the Corps member and his accomplices identified as Wale Ojo and Ijamakinwa Olaoluwa.

An added revelation about the case has it that ” INEC supervisor to the alleged corps member Mrs Makanjuola Bilahu ‘f’ aged 58 years and one Mr. Oluwatobi Ogini ‘m’ aged 32 years” were also arrested to investigate the level of their involvement.

“The police is on the trail of the fleeing suspects. The suspects will be charged to court after the completion of investigation” Osun state police command assured.
