It is no longer news, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Heritage Bank, Ifie Sekibo is on his way out.

The Harvard trainer Bank chief has less than a year to serve as Heritage Bank’s number one employee.

Ifiesiemama Precious Sekibo – full name – who grabbed headlines recently for giving Bank staff the go-ahead to protest at the residence of Senator Andy Uba, the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over refusal to pay debt owe Heritage Bank was appointed in 2012.

The pioneer Managing Director of the Bank that started out as a regional bank but secured a national banking license in 2014 is just a couple of months short of the mandatory 10years allowed for a single person to occupy his position according to rules guiding the operations of his industry.

Societynow.ng gathered within Heritage Bank, there appears only one qualified contender to replace the 56yr old Sekibo.

He is identified as Jude Monye who joined Heritage Bank as the Executive Director, Enterprise Risk Management, and Chief Risk Officer in May 2015.

Interestingly, he is the only person currently listed under Executive Directors on Heritage Bank’s website.

The checks by societynow.ng revealed that the two other persons appointed as Directors along with him – in 2015 – in a move Sekibo labeled “demonstrate the financial institution’s commitment to offering the best and safest banking services by employing highly competent and experienced bankers with proven track record” have left the employment.

Adaeze Udensi named Executive Director South Directorate left in February 2019 to become the Executive Directive / Executive Compliance Officer at Titan Trust Bank Nigeria in April 2019 while the other person, Ola Olabinjo who named the Executive Director, Lagos, South-West and Corporate Banking Directorate of Heritage in 2015 left the bank in 2017 and is currently listed as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Skyestone Capital and Investment.

Insiders disclosed that Monye has, however, kept faith with the bank and showed unwavering commitment to its over the years.

Described as a former hedge fund administrator at State Street Bank and Trust Corporation, Toronto, Canada, Monye according to his profile is a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Masters in Managerial Psychology, University of Ibadan, and an MBA degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Profiled as having over 26 years of experience covering relationship management, credit risk management, control & Audit, financial control, and business development under his belt, he was the Chief Risk Officer at Wema Bank Plc before joining Heritage Bank.

Said to have also served as Risk Officer at Citibank Nigeria and “Bank PHB”, Monye has Masters in Project Management from Schulich Business School, York University, Canada, and is a Chartered Banker and MBA holder from Bangor Business School, Wales.

Listed as a member of Chartered Bankers, Scotland, the Heritage bank Director is said to possess a PhD in Credit Management and Administration from the London Postgraduate Credit Management College, UK.

There are, however, those who insist that the qualifications he posses and years of services to Heritage Bank may not guarantee the member of professional bodies such as Urban Financial Services Coalition (UFSC), Toronto, Canada, Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP). He is also a member of the Institute of Credit Administration (ICA) and Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) becoming the next Chief Executive Officer at Heritage Bank.

“There are many interests at play. And there is an intense fight for control that may turn the tables if not well managed, but all things being equal, Jude Monye is the next Managing Director at Heritage Bank” societynow.ng learned.
