Insiders have pointed out what will determine the winner of the second round of the intense power struggle between Senator Gbenga Daniel and Govenor Dapo Abiodun.

The Senator representing Ogun East – the Govenor’s district – won the first round by shrugging off all opposition to not only become the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in last election, but also record a record breaking win.

The tussle between Daniel and Abiodun started over the Governor’s alleged action – and inaction – during his first term in office, after Daniel joined forces with other power brokers to help him win election in 2019 SocietyNow.Ng learned.

As the supremacy tussle remains unabated, insiders point at the about-to-be-released list of Ministers and related federal government appointments by President Bola Tinubu as the barometer to determine winner of the new chapter of the fight labeled “second round”.

With Abiodun the chief decider of who gets what in the state, the fight with Daniel is now about how much appointments each can influence to his corner from the Federal Government through President Tinubu SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

“That is a key reason Senator Daniel has taken care to release details of the genesis of his quarrel with Governor Abiodun on prominent media platforms and also why the Govenor has become a permanent fixture on the entourage of President Tinubu. Each of them is working hard to swing things his way” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

The Senator in providing details of his quarrel with the Governor attributes it to support for the Presidential ambition of Tinubu when he was an aspirant.

Daniel disclosed he supported Tinuhu to get the Presidential ticket of the APC for the 2023 election while Abiodun backed another aspirant.

Abiodun was one of the backers of former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo to succeed immediate past president, Muhammadu Buhari.

Tinubu won the APC primary election in a landslide victory and Abiodun dutifully joined the vigorous campaign that won him the February 28, 2023 Presidential election. 

The Governor has since turned never-far-away from the President as plans get underway to announce the list of of new ministers and other appointments.

Abiodun is backed in the pursuit by former Governor Olusegun Osoba and Senator Adeola Yayi.

Daniel, a stand alone political leader and a former two-term Governor in Ogun state is utilizing close personal relationship with the President complemented by his army of contacts in and out of politics to get things done SocietyNow.Ng learned.
