Fresh details have revealed why one of the first-class kings in Lagos State has refused to step down as the Chairman of the commercial motorcycle -better known as Okada- Riders and Owners.

The Oniba of Iba, Oba Sulaimon Adeshina Ayemojuba Ashade was the chairman of the Okada riders and owners in Lagos state under the umbrella of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).

The first-class king who took the throne of Ibadaland, in Ojo area of Lagos state about seven months ago has refused to step down from his position in the transport union.

He wants to see out his tenure as chairman of the RTEAN okada riders and owners association known as NNAMORA (Nagari Nokowa Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association) in the face of pressure to step away to protect his new status as a royal father.

Societynow.ng gathered that behind the insistence of the king known by the street name “Authority Jafo” to retain his position are the fantastic returns that come to the office of the state chairman of Nnamoral.

“We are talking millions of Naira and this is based on the fact that the ban on Okada in Lagos state does not really affect the routes that RTEAN Members operate. The association’s streams of revenues through Okada riders have increased as more of those affected by the ban switch to their side” societynow.ng learned.

“The kind of money the association makes and what comes to the state chairman is better imagined, millions of Naira per week from different branch chairmen across the state. That is what Authority Jafo does not want to let go after he became Oniba” according to the information at hand.

Those who should explain that RTEAN through NNAMORAL is making huge returns from Okada Riders because the ban by the Lagos state largely affects routes plied by members of rival transport union, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

NURTW splintered out of the RTEAN.

The NURTW was supposed to be for workers while the RTEAN protects the interests of employers but the former transformed into the rival of the latter over the years.
