It is no more news that barely a week after he returned from his prolonged medical trip abroad, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has sacked the media team of his Deputy Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Aiyedatiwa was the acting governor while Akeredolu was undergoing treatment for an illness that remains the subject of intense speculation.

SocietyNow.Ng’s check revealed the sack of Aiyedatiwa’s entire media team is part of the unending struggle for who succeeds Akeredolu that has made the Deputy Governor the target of relentless dark speculations.

The next Ondo state gubernatorial election is earmarked for around October/November 2024

Aiyedetiwa as a Deputy Governor in good standing with the Governor has a big edge but he is not the choice of a ferocious band of power-mongers backed by a person with strong ties to the Governor.

The Deputy Governor has suffered unceasing hits to ruin his chances or badger him into admitting non-interest but Aiyedatiwa refused to yield.

His media entire media aides got sacked for frontally taking on the “powerful persons” out for their principal at a time Akeredolu ordered a “cease-fire” – that was incidentally respected by the other side for a brief spell.

SocietyNow.Ng’s checks revealed that in response to the eruption of another round of attack against Aiyedetiwa on the heels of Akeredolu’s return, the Deputy Governor’s spokesperson Keneth Odusola responded in part “We need to remind the public that this is a continuation of the blackmail started by these same characters some months ago, with false stories planted in some media outlets against the Deputy Governor. However, since those lies did not yield the result they envisaged, the blackmailers have returned with fake stories about disloyalty, aimed at causing disaffection between him and the Governor.

“These faceless individuals who have been hiding their identities because what they are putting out are pure fabrications, are being sponsored by those who are threatened by the profile of the Deputy Governor, his relationship with his boss and the goodwill he enjoys with the people….

“How can the man who was constantly in touch with his boss and had prepared for his arrival to attend some other critical state matters, including the signing of the LCDA Law after passage by the State Assembly be surprised by that same arrival? Those behind the falsehoods being peddled around had planned that these concocted lies about disloyalty and impeachment would irritate Mr. Governor and his family so as to land a devastating blow on the Deputy Governor ahead of the coming governorship election in the State…”

They reportedly played into the hands of Aiyedatiwa’s political opponents.

The reaction by Aiyedatiwa’s aide was painted to Akeredolu as a provocation and an open gubernatorial campaign at a time he ordered a blackout and the Governor was influenced to retaliate by sacking all those deemed “guilty”.

This reaction of Aiyedatiwa’s aides was postured to the Governor as the recurring incident that has been forcing unfavorable engagements.

“The result of the sacking of the entire media team of Aiyedatiwa is that it leaves him defenseless against future attacks” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

Though he has resumed as Governor of Ondo state, Akeredolu is still undergoing treatment for a full recovery.
