Disclosures made to societynow.ng revealed that the raging debate over whether the payment of tithe is backed by the scriptures or not appears to have dire consequence on the purse of the church.

‘’People are no longer paying their tithe’’ Pastor Paul Adefarasin of the House on The Rock, one of the biggest churches in Nigeria told his congregation recently.

Pastor Adefarasin whose ministry owns an over N2billlion worship center in Lagos made the disclosure in the course of his sermons societynow.ng learned.

‘’How many of you are paying your tithe again? People are no longer paying their tithe’’ one of the leading lights of modern day life of luxury for pastors reported stated.

This development comes in the face of recently dwindled heated public debates over whether the church – and pastors – are scripturally correct to continue the practice of collecting tithe – 10% percent of the congregants earning – which was practiced before the advent of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Bible.

The anti-tithe group publicly led by Daddy Freeze – Ifedayo Olarinde – insists that the practice is not correct since modern day Christianity is premised on the ways of Christ, who is not recorded to have paid Tithe anywhere.

This assertion was vociferously knocked by the Tithe collecting pastors with Pastor Adeboye who was at the forefront going as far as to declare that those who do not pay tithes would not make heaven.

Societynow.ng learned that the current situation at Pastor Adefarasin’s church may not be unconnected with the assertions by an invited celebrated international preacher who told the worshippers that ‘’Tithe is optional’’.
