When an elder statesman, a captain of industry in Nigeria, a suave gentleman celebrated globally as a visionary, a pioneer, a philanthropist, and an illustrious leader attains the age of 87, mere words barely capture the essence of such a colossus.

Nevertheless, today I seize this opportunity to celebrate the titan called Otunba Subomi Balogun for his many accomplishments and thank him for his love, faith, wise counsel, and wisdom.

My Uncle Otunba Subomi, the Olori Omoba of our family; the Oba Tunwase Royal Family of Ijebu Ode is one of the significant paternal figures in my life, Otunba never fails to remind me of the rich ancestral heritage that we share as he has been particular about keeping us aware and appreciative of our familial roots. My Father, of blessed memory, who loved his “aburo” so dearly and always spoke of him in glowing terms would be pleased to see me enjoy our kinship.

Sir, many of us stand on your expansive shoulders and stretch farther (than we may have) into our respective futures, because of the trails you painstakingly blazed, and we appreciate you for this.

Few may know ( because of your meekness) the fundamental and foundational role you have played in the mentoring of today’s doyens in the financial services industry.

The depth of my prayers for you cannot adequately be encapsulated in a few lines, however, it is my heartfelt prayer that the Almighty God will continue to bless you, prolong your years , keep you in good health and in great strength, even as He renews your strength like an Eagle’s.
