James Onanafe Ibori, the power behind the politics of Delta state and Governor of Rivers state Nyesom Wike are up against each other.

“They are enmeshed in an intense power struggle” a source disclosed.

At stake is said to be the control of the political might of the South-South region, particular control of the People’s Democratic Party’s structure in their terrain – and at the national level.

Wike is said to have adopted the position of “leader” when Ibori was in prison – abroad – for corruption conviction.

His attempt to carry on “business as usual” with the return of Ibori is fingered as “the cause of current bad blood” between the two powerful politicians.

Ibori is said to have stamped his foot down against a situation where he would be at a party gathering and Wike who was a local government chairman when he was Delta state governor would be parading self as “Leader”.Nyesom Wike

Wike who is credited with the title major sponsor of the party, especially in his region is said to have refused to differ to the former Delta Governor.

“The situation has created an impasse and resulted in the inability to stage an all-inclusive south south caucus meeting of the PDP” a source claimed.

Things were said to have turned worse when wike – with the support of other PDP governors – brushed aside Ibori and others to install Uche Secondus as People’s Democratic Party National Chairman.

Sources, however, claim with the particular “extraordinary rapport” that produced such a feat no longer existing amongst the PDP Governors – and Wike’s fierce advocate, Ayo Fayose’s failure to retain Ekiti for the party – the River’s Governor’s influence appears on the wane.

But Ibori is said to be quietly moving into his former control spaces inch by inch as he negotiates his way back to reckoning – backed with the influences of his old comrades, stealthily taking over control of the party.
