… leveraging the lessons of the past experience to regain political power

It is deja vu in the politics of Ogun State.

Governor Dapo Abiodun rode to power on the sentiments against his predecessor Ibikunle Amosun.

Amosun, who became the Senator representing Ogun Centra after he left office in 2019, is regaining political strength using the same playbook.

Amosun, 63, is capitalizing on all the political missteps of 61years old Dapo Abiodun to make amends with all those he alienated pre- 2019 make or mar gubernatorial election in Ogun state.

And the man from Owu in Abeokuta appears to be recording major wins.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that the former Governor as among other things secured all the Senators in Ogun state to his corner, regained the support of former Speaker (multiple term commissioner) Muyiwa Oladipo – a major political player in Governor Abiodun’s area – and also gotten shares of the supports of the nine (9) Federal House of Representatives members and twenty-six (26) State House of Assembly members.

“Amosun has been able to penetrate the ranks of the reps members (House of Representatives) and assemble members (state lawmakers) with his loyalists in both places leading the charge. You know his men got elected on the platform of APM before they switched back to APC.

Those are the ones championing the Amosun agenda among their colleagues but are keeping how much support they have been able to muster quiet for now” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

APM (Allied Peoples Movement) is the political party Amosun used to challenge the candidates of his party – All Progressives Congress (APC) – with particular intention to install a preferred successor, in the 2019 election.

Though he made a couple of wins, Amosun and his backers lost the major fight and Abiodun from Iperu became the Governor of Ogun state.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that Amosun is leveraging the lessons of the experience to regain political power in Ogun state on two fronts.

“He is neck-deep in consultation on the possibility of succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari on one hand, and in installing his choice as the next Governor of Ogun State on the other hand” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

Amosun is said to have set up an expanding team of loyalists that now meet constantly behind closed doors mapping out and revising strategies on the way forward.

“They are working as a team which is a great departure from the according to what-i- say that Amosun was known for” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Added information revealed that to increase the potency of his team in Ogun state, Amosun is strongly reaching out and making amends with party leaders aggrieved with his past conducts and those angry with how Abiodun is perceived to have turned out.

Governor Abiodun was brought to power by a coalition of political forces that include Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, Bimbo Ashiru, Muyiwa Oladipo, and Lagos senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola.

The Governor dismayed his backers when he formed his cabinet – over five months of great expectations after he was sworn in – with the majority of members from the political family of Lagos Senator Adeola.

From left Jide Ojuko, Ibikunle Amosun, Muyiwa Oladipo and Derin Adebiyi.

Adeola who is better known as Yayi is the face of the expanding political interest of formidable politician, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Ogun State.

SocietyNow.NG learned that dismay turned to anger and accusations of abandonment when four appointees of the Governor – Tokunbo Talabi (SSG), Shuaib Afolabi (Chief of Staff), Tunji Egbetokun (S.A on Political Matters), and Dapo Okubanjo (Finance Commissioner) – stand accused of always shielding him from those who helped him to power and party leaders.

“It is this growing resentment which runs deep against Governor Abiodun that Amosun believed to have learned his lessons is profiting from to regain support” SocietyNow.NG learned.

Both Abiodun and Amosun are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC).

They were friends turned foe over reasons coated with plenty of speculations and conjectures.

They are fighting for the soul of the APC in Ogun state ahead of the 2023 general election – especially the gubernatorial contest.
