What was meant to be a show of strength and firm handling has transformed into a public relations disaster.

That is the case of the video released by image handlers of Dapo Abiodun where council chairmen prostrated for forgiveness.

The chairmen met with the Governor on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, to distance themselves from the claims of one of them and plead forgiveness for the sin of one that appeared that of all.

To showcase a contrite spirit, the elected representatives of the people of Ogun state led by Babatunde Emilola-Gazal, from Ijebu Ode prostrated – while the women knelt – for the Governor.

Emilola-Gazal is the Ogun state Chairman of the Association of Local Government Chairmen (ALGON)

The video released by Abiodun’s handlers has received backlash not particularly because of the action of the council chairmen but the demeanour of the Governor.

The Governor’s posture in the released video has earned him unending flakes.

This is particularly because he was postured as a gentleman- and unassuming – politician, before now, in the face of all shades of reports of political conflicts SocietyNow.Ng’s checks revealed

The video sheds another light on the non-threatening posture that has been the hallmark of Abiodun’s public appeal.

And the opposition parties are having a feast out of the situation.

“If only the video captured the Governor telling them not to embarrass him with such an action or something like that. It would have been a PR coup if the video was released but this one they put out. It is not it” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

It has not helped the public perception that Abiodun’s known aides try to explain the development as “the Governor is in control“.

Adedayo

The video is one of the offshoots of allegations by Wale Adedayo, the Chairman of Ijebu-East, that “Since we (Ogun State Local Government Chairmen) got on board in 2021, it has been ZERO Federal Allocation to each local government. The 10% of the state’s Internally Generated Revenue, which the Constitution also stipulated should go to the local governments has not been given since Abiodun got into office.”

The Governor denied the allegation by Adedayo and insisted in a press release issued by Chief Press secretary, Lekan Adeniran that he adds to, rather than take away from local government funds.

All the other 19 council chairmen in Ogun state are backing the Governor.

Adedayo who vehemently stands by his claims against the Governor has been suspended for 3 months by seven out of the 11 councilors in his local government and decorated with counter-allegations bordering on financial misappropriation.
