High Stake Power Play!…Untold Story Why Tinubu Is Making A mess Of The Selection Process For New Lagos King, Oniru

An insider disclosed crisis rocking the selection process for the new king of Iruland, in Victoria Island, Lagos is strictly political.

And at the center of it all is powerful politician Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

‘’What you see playing out is Tinubu trying to protect primarily is political influence and secondarily his economic base’’ a source stated.

After leading contestants Aremo Adesegun Oniru and Hakeem Ajasa agreed to step down for one another – with Ajasa set to take the crown, Asiwaju Tinubu has thrown in a major upset by backing one of his aides, Gbolahan Lawal to take the throne.

Societynow.ng gathered that this development has not gone down well with a larger percentage of the stakeholders, especially the kingmakers who believed a consensus candidate – that everybody is comfortable with and history backs as the proper heir – has been picked.

But like he always does, Tinubu appears all out to get his will done with a strong signal sent with the supposedly quiet resignation of Lawal as the commissioner in Lagos state in preparation to ascending the throne.

Insiders provide insight into why Tinubu appears ‘’hell-bent’’ on making Lawal the new oniru.

‘’Just like he did in Ikate land with the Gushi king ( Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi his former Personal Assistant ) in charge, he wants someone he can trust implicitly in charge of Iruland. Having his hardcore loyalists in charge of Iru and Ikate would enormously boost Asiwaju’s political and economic influence. They are prime business and real estate areas’’ societynow.ng learned.

Societynow.ng gathered that Tinubu’s problem with Ajasa stems from perceived extreme loyalty to another political player – though in the camp of the political family of Asiwaju.

‘’You know, the way Asiwaju plays his game, he wants you to be relevant but not too relevant…he wants you to be powerful but not too powerful..he wants you to be just enough to be useful to him but easily caged when you are deemed to have crossed the line. The player Ajasa is seen as extremely loyal too is already too big to be easily caged and allowing his someone who does his bidding to take the throne is considered a political taboo, hence the introduction of Lawal who has shown extreme loyalty to Asiwaju over the years, and above all there is the issue of 2023 ambition and putting things in place’’ societynow.ng gathered.

Interestingly while Lawal was a former police officer and served as the ADC to Tnubu when he was governor, Ajasa the man he is about to edge out in the race for the throne of Oniru is a serving police officer and served as the ADC and later chief security officer to Rauf Aregbesola in all the eight years the latter was governor of Osun state. Ajasa is currently a too security official in the team of Femi Gbajabiamila, the speaker of the Federal House of Representatives.
