“He Is Stable” — Ogun, Lagos Reassure Nigerians After Anthony Joshua Crash
and receiving the best medical care
The Ogun and Lagos State governments on Tuesday moved swiftly to calm public fears following a road traffic accident involving British-Nigerian boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, assuring Nigerians that the former world heavyweight champion is stable and receiving the best medical care.
In a joint statement, the two governments confirmed that the vehicle conveying Joshua and three others was involved in an accident after running into a stationary truck, an incident that sadly claimed two lives.
The states expressed deep sympathy with the families of the deceased and prayed for strength for them at a difficult time.
Amid widespread concern at home and abroad, authorities stressed that Joshua and another passenger were immediately evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos, where doctors carried out thorough clinical assessments.
According to the statement, medical experts confirmed that both patients are stable and do not require any emergency intervention.
The governments further disclosed that a comprehensive medical team has been assembled to continue close monitoring, adding that Joshua has been responding well and is already relating with members of his family, a development seen as reassuring by many Nigerians and sports fans.
Ogun and Lagos states said they are keenly monitoring the situation and will ensure that the affected persons receive optimal care, while investigations have commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
While appreciating the outpouring of concern from the public, the governments appealed for privacy for Anthony Joshua and his family as he continues his recovery, reiterating their commitment to transparency and public safety.
