The plot to retain the presidential seat by Muhammadu Buhari’s men has become more intense.

And different strategies are being thrown up to ensure the incumbent stays in office beyond 2019, by winning the general election.

Sources disclosed getting the support of the southwest remains a major factor – and there appeared to be no fast solution until someone inside the inner caucus came up with an agenda.

“Make outgoing governor of Ogun state Ibikunle Amosun the Chief of Staff to the president, and packaged in a way that makes it makes the southwest a major stakeholder in the Buhari government” societynow learned.

Further digs revealed the agenda is being mooted with the added advantage that, it takes out Abba Kyari, a man dogged with multiple controversies and whose continuous association with the administration is rated as taking the shine off the presidency.

“The promoters claim taking out Kyari and making Amosun Chief of Staff would enhance Buhari’s anti-corruption image and boost his chances in the southwest” a source claimed.

Further revelation has it that, Amosun is being tipped because he is a highly trusted member of the Buhari kitchen cabinet and the “north” is very comfortable with him.

“For them, it would be just replacing a trusted ally with another but in the public eye, the fact that Amosun is from the south-west would be a big deal and huge image enhancer” a source explained.

The President is doused with continuous allegations of favoring the “north” in government appointments in recent time.

The position of Chief of Staff is seen as one of the most “powerful” in the country.

Checks, however, revealed that this strategy that determines the next move for Amosun is being woven around the re-election ‘ambition” of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The governor of Ogun state is said to have his eyes firmly fixed on the Senate should the plan fail to sail through.
