Stakeholders including former students of the oldest secondary school in Kwara State, Government Secondary School, GSS, Ilorin, and Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) are on warpath with the Kwara State Government to stop its ongoing construction of shops around the school’s fence.

Located along Fate Road in the Kwara State capital, and established over 102 years, one of the famous alumni of the boys only school include, former external affairs minister, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.
OrijoReporter gathered concerned stakeholders had petitioned the State House of Assembly over the construction of shops at the school’s fence by the state government through the Bureau of Lands.

Prior to the fence construction, the government had shared out lands in the school premises to its officials, influential politicians and their cronies.

Last week following petition over the shop construction it received, the Kwara State House of Assembly invited all the stakeholders including the state government officials, old students association, indigenous association, among others for a public hearing.

The public hearing was aimed at resolving the matter after stakeholders threatened they would stop at nothing to ensure government’s desist from encroaching on the school’s land.
