Senate President Bukola Saraki is troubled.

And his trouble just got magnified with the damning stunt recently pulled by his opponents.

Leveraging on the infighting and distrust ravaging the political structure of Saraki, those out to cage him floated a false story of the withdrawal of People’s Democratic Party’s Razak Atunwa from the Saturday, March 9 gubernatorial contest.

The move made via a ruse of an official statement attributed Atunwa’s false exit from the gubernatorial race to the defeat suffered by Saraki in last Saturday’s Senatorial election and need to respect the wish of the people after widespread consultation. The false statement also urged Atunwa’s supporters to vote candidates of their choice.

Societynow.ng gathered that, though the Atunwa’s campaign team was quick to issue a statement denying the damning press release, it is finding it hard to contain the fallout.

The investigation conducted by societynow.ng false story has fueled the distrust in the Saraki camp and dampened the morale of supporters.

‘’Some within the Saraki camp allege insiders involvement in the use of the false story’’ societynow.ng learned.

Insiders disclosed that the distrust and infighting ravaging the Saraki support base since the emergence of Razak Atunwa as PDP gubernatorial candidate and withdrawal of senatorial ticket from governor Abdulfatah Ahmed has refused to go away.

And many attribute it to the shock loss suffered by Saraki in his bid to retain his senatorial position.

‘’They are not united but fighting for relevance and trying to show importance in the scheme of things by doing things that expose the inadequacies of one another’’ a source disclosed.

Societynow.ng gathered with a very determined opposition in the mold of the ruling All Progressives Congress snapping at Saraki and his People’s Democratic Party in Kwara state the defeat suffered by the Senate President and his supporters – against the background of the disharmony amongst them – is not unexpected to keen followers of the event.

Societynow.ng gathered that with his defeat on Saturday, Saraki had initiated spirited efforts to contain the situation and galvanize support for Atunwa and other party candidates ahead of the March 9 gubernatorial and state house of assembly election by putting a lid on talks of disloyalty and distrust.

The Senate president is said to be quietly and urgently brokering a truce across his support base until the latest false story of Atunwa’s withdrawal.

‘’ The false story of Atunwa ’s withdrawal has sparked off the issue of distrust amidst accusations of insiders within the Saraki camp working against the interest of the gubernatorial candidate’’ societynow.ng gathered.

Should Atunwa become the next governor of Kwara state- with Saraki no longer a Senator – he would become the official leader of the PDP in Kwara state while the Senate President would become the ‘’unofficial leader’’.

‘’This is what those who opposed Atunwa’s emergence as the gubernatorial candidate are allegedly not to be comfortable with, especially because it would take a strong loyalty to Saraki for Atunwa not to attempt to upstage him’’ a source stated.
