Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, and Senator Gbenga Daniel suspended their raging political fight on Friday, May 2, 2025.

The truce in the talk-of-the-town conflict took place at the welcome-home reception in honour of Oluwatoyin Shakirat Madein, former Accountant General of the Federation.

The event, held in Iperu, was hosted by the Iperu Akesan Development Association.

Iperu, the hometown of Governor Abiodun, is part of Ogun East, which Daniel represents in the Senate.

Sources say Daniel and Abiodun attended the event in private and official capacities and shook hands publicly—with the Senator giving the Governor a near embrace.

The development marks the first of its kind since their quarrel broke into the open.

They had avoided attending events together and stayed away from each other whenever circumstances forced them to share space.

Their quarrel started shortly after Daniel, a former two-term governor of Ogun State, joined hands with others to help Abiodun secure a first term in 2019.

It has since blown into an open fight over claims that Governor Abiodun wants to take over the Ogun East Senatorial seat from Daniel.

The Senator, who is already campaigning for a second term in office, has reportedly gone all out in resisting the move.

“Their quarrel is deep-seated. The Friday show of truce is just for the event. The quarrel is not over,” is the common reaction to their first public handshake in a while.

Daniel, who welcomed Abiodun to the event with a dance that prompted a handshake from the Governor, posted a video of the moment on social media.
