My Leader – Ladi Adebutu Hails Gbenga Daniel At 70
describing him as “my leader” and a man of enduring impact.
Ladi Adebutu, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has hailed former Ogun State governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, on his 70th birthday, describing him as “my leader” and a man of enduring impact.
Adebutu, a serial governorship candidate and a major force within the PDP in Ogun, was among dignitaries who gathered at Abraham’s Tabernacle in Sagamu to celebrate the former governor.
Reflecting on the moment, Adebutu said, “I was at Abraham’s Tabernacle in Sagamu today to celebrate my leader, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, as he marked his 70th birthday.”
He added that the occasion went beyond celebration, noting that it was “a moment of reflection and appreciation, celebrating a life dedicated to service, impactful leadership, and the steady development of Ogun State and beyond.”
Adebutu, who also hails from Ogun East, spoke glowingly of Daniel’s legacy, emphasizing his years of public service and continued relevance in the state’s political evolution.
“Happy Birthday, Ogidi omo,” he said, in a remark that underscored both admiration and cultural reverence.
Daniel, a former two-term governor, currently represents Ogun East Senatorial District on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and remains a central figure in the state’s political structure.
His 70th birthday comes at a time of heightened political activity in Ogun East, where he is believed to be positioning for a second term in the Senate.
The move has put him on a collision course with Governor Dapo Abiodun, who is reportedly eyeing the same senatorial seat, setting up what observers describe as a fierce supremacy battle within the ruling party.
Adebutu’s tribute, despite his position as a leading opposition figure and power broker within the PDP, reflects the layered political relationships in Ogun State, where rivalry often coexists with personal respect.
By repeatedly referring to Daniel as “my leader,” Adebutu signalled a deep-rooted political and personal connection, even as both men operate from opposing ends of the state’s partisan divide.
