Gbajabiamila’s Choice Emerges APC Candidate For Surulere 1 Reps Slot

Against all odds, Fuad Laguda the preferred successor of Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the vacant Surulere 1 Federal House of Representatives position.

Gbajabiamila, the immediate past Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives and seat occupier, was re-elected but stepped down to take up the appointment as Chief Of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He reportedly tapped Laguda as his preferred successor but faced strong opposition from those seeking to contain his influence as Chief of Staff to President.

Talks of the opposition were so fierce that it was given in many circles that Laguda would be denied the APC ticket to succeed Gbajabiamila.

But the Chief of Staff’s preferred successor beat of all other contenders to emerge the ruling party’s candidate at the primary election that was held Saturday, January 6, 2023.

The bye-election against the candidates from other political parties is fixed for February 3, 2024.
