PFIPC Probe: ICPC Gives Update on Gbajabiamila’s Questioning

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Tuesday clarified the circumstances surrounding the questioning of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, saying he voluntarily honoured an invitation by investigators in connection with the ongoing probe into the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).

In a statement, the anti-graft agency said Gbajabiamila visited its headquarters in Abuja on Monday to provide a statement as part of investigations ordered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu into the activities of the entity, which the Presidency has disowned as fraudulent.

“The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) confirms that the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, was at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday, 20th July, 2026, to give a statement in connection with the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC),” the Commission said.

According to the ICPC, President Tinubu directed it to investigate how the PFIPC allegedly operated from the Federal Secretariat in Abuja for about two years under one Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who is alleged to have presented himself as the Director-General of the council.

The Commission said Gbajabiamila arrived at its headquarters in the afternoon and responded to questions from investigators before leaving the premises.

“The Commission confirms that the Chief of Staff’s visit was on the invitation of its investigators and consistent with its ongoing efforts to gather all relevant facts in the matter. He was not arrested; he simply willingly honoured an invitation,” the statement added.

The ICPC said investigations into the alleged PFIPC fraud are continuing and assured that “further updates will be communicated as appropriate.”
