Flamboyant Iwo King Akanbi, Alaafin Of Oyo In “Supremacy Battle”

Flamboyant traditional ruler, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi has taken up another fight.

And this time it is with a more popular king, the Alaafin of Oyo – Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.

Emperor as Oba Akanbi has styled self is fighting to “protect” the integrity of his crown and territory.

The root cause of the raging supremacy battle between the two kings is traced to attempt by the Alaafin to crown a royal father in Oba Akanbi’s domain.

The attempt was reportedly made on Saturday, July 22, 2017, according to information sourced on metronews.

It was during the coronation ceremony of Oba Afeez Adigun Akinmoyero as the Onikoyi of Ikoyi.

The town of the incident is Ikoyi Kuta in Ayedire Local Government Area of Osun state.

Osun and Oyo state share the same border.

For reasons yet to decipher, the Alaafin had allegedly come to the town which falls under the rulership of Oba Akanbi to crown the Onikoyi.

This was after the self-styled “Emperor” had taken steps and secured government approval for the Onikoyi to be crowned as a first-class monarch.

Alerted to the Alaafin’s move, Oba Akanbi had scampered to the coronation venue and outwitted the Oyo Monarch to crowning the Onikoyi.

A development that resulted in Alaafin openly “chiding” his fellow king, a development the latter didn’t take lightly.

The refusal of the Iwo king to back down was said to have angered the Alaafin and he angrily left the occasion.

The open exchange is said to have resulted in a cold war between the two monarchs.

Though the Alaafin is richer in heritage and older in age than the Iwo monarch, it is confirmed the two kings are of equal standing in the face of the law.
