The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday, tightened its noose on the immediate former Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Sullivan Chime in connection with N24 billion cash allegedly disbursed by Fidelity Bank on the instruction of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke during the re-election bid of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Chime drove himself to the EFCC’s zonal office in Enugu in an SUV with registration number ENU CV 960 ENU, clad in brown native suit in the company of his orderly, one Tony, whom Chime said he handed over the N450 million for safe keeping.
The former governor arrived the anti-graft commission’s office at exactly 10:58a.m.

This was even as fiery Enugu-based lawyer, Ray Nnaji, had, demanded from the EFCC, the prosecution of former Governor Sullivan Chime.

Before Chime’s arrival, one of his close aides, Ikeji Asogwa, immediate former Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Enugu State chapter, equally reported yesterday at the Commission in a vehicle marked ENU 06D-01EN.

It was gathered that their appearances were in keeping with the conditions of administrative bail granted them last week Monday, by the commission.

Mr. Charles Egumgbe, who also served in Chime’s government and was the chairman of the PDP campaign organization, also showed up at 10:10a.m. for interrogation.
Egumgbe was the pioneer chairman of the PDP in Enugu State.

It would be re-called that the EFCC had last Wednesday, grilled Chime for allegedly receiving N450m out of the $115m, N23 billion, disbursed by the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, during the build-up to the 2015 presidential election.

During the interrogation, the ex-governor was said to have told detectives that he handed over the money to the secretary of the campaign office, Mrs. Rita Mba, who was also the state’s Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Government Affairs then.

Chime was quoted as saying that the money was brought by two of his former commissioners, Joe Nmamnel and Mrs. Rita Mba, in the company of PDP, Enugu State chairman, Ikeji Asogwa, and Prof. Osita Ogbu.
