The Governor of Ogun State Dapo Abiodun is considering extending the lockdown in Ogun State.

The extension is being considered as a result of low compliance with the rules of engagements in the face of rising numbers of Covid-19 cases.

Parts of the rules of engagements are physical distancing, use of Face Masks and Hand Sanitizers in public places, and prevention of persons from neighboring states – except essential duties personnel.

Lockdown – restrictions on movements – is meant to contain the spread of Covid-19 and enable the government to identify and treat infected persons.

The idea was introduced by the Federal Government but was relaxed after four weeks with the administration of Governor Abiodun opting to extend the one in Ogun State by a week over ‘’issue of compliance in the face of rising numbers of infection’’.

The checks made by societynow.ng, however, revealed that as the end of the extension nears an end, the Governor and his team are considering yet another extension of the lockdown.

The lockdown in Ogun State allows for free movements till 5 p.m on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with a law that has turned not using face masks in public places a criminal offense.

The major downside of the looming extension is that workers in Lagos State who reside in Ogun State are denied another week at work.

‘’But the major upside is that the Government remains on top of the situation in the bid to protect lives and properties based on statistics made available’’ a source pointed out.

Societynow.ng’s checks revealed that Governor Abiodun is currently engaged in an opinion poll of a sort to prepare residents for a possible extension of the lockdown which ends on Saturday, May 16, 2020.

The poll kicked of today – Wednesday, May 13, 2020 while the Governor is expected to make his whether there will be an extension or not tomorrow.
