Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade has wielded the big stick on the person considered one of his most loyal appointees.

The individual identified as Asu Okang, the commissioner for Information is one of those kicked out of Ayade’s administration in a new purge.

Okang, who named his son Ben Ayade Asu Okang – after the Governor – is believed to have been sacked over refusal to leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ayade recently defected from the PDP which gave him a two-term in office to the APC as he prepares for life after office, after the constitutionally allowed number of years for a person to contest the office he holds.

The Governor, however, explained that he left the PDP for the APC because he wants the State to benefit from aligning with the party in charge of the Federal Government.

Ayade insisted that he joined the APC with his cabinet and other senior elected officials in PDP based on claims that “when the governor moves, everybody move” in an appearance on Channels T.V’s Politics Today.

Though no official reason was mentioned in the memo announcing the sack of Asu Okang and three other commissioners and four other appointees (one of the appointees has been reinstated), societynow.ng gathered the refusal to two Ayade’s path in defecting to the PDP has been fingered as the reason.

Reactions have started trailing the sack of the commissioner who named his son after the Governor.

One of such reactions is from film maker Egor Efiok who expressed great shock in a post that reads

I am in SHOCK! Hon. Asu Okang is one of Governor Ayade’s most loyal appointees, if not the most loyal. He even named his son Ben Ayade Asu Okang. That is how much he loves his boss; yet he is now being sacked because he refused to join APC. To say that I feel bad is an understatement. I keep saying this: please NEVER EVER kill yourselves for Nigerian politicians. Everyone is only out for their personal gain. There is no conscience involved. When you eat with them, hold a very long spoon so that you can get out of the kitchen when it becomes too hot. I wish my good friend, Asu Okang, good luck in his future endeavors. I have no doubt that he will succeed even more now. Watch this space. He is a badass hard worker and extremely talented. One more advice for my good friend: mbok “unname” usop usop!!! God bless you, bro.
