Why Tinubu & Atiku’s Much Talked About Abuja ‘Meeting ‘ Is Branded “Noble Gesture”

The camp of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reacted to raging talks about his public greetings tagged ‘meeting’ with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Asiwaju Tinubu is one of the chief promoters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while Atiku is a chieftain of and major power behind the activities of main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The two met at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja on Friday, May 28, 2021, and exchanged pleasantries.

Atiku arrived from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at a time Tinubu was within the Airport premises.

A viral video of the occurrence has continued to generate interesting reactions across different lines with the theme of reactions revolving around expectations of antagonism when the duo met.

Tunde Rahman, the spokesperson of the politician famously known as the Jagaban (of Borgu Kingdom in Niger State in honor of contributions to developments across ethnic lines) has , however, put the ‘meeting’ with Atiku in context.

“On the @AsiwajuTinubu @atiku Video at Abuja Airport,” Rahman wrote: “Former Vice President @atiku had arrived first and was in his car about to leave when @AsiwajuTinubu arrived.

“As he was informed about him, @AsiwajuTinubu walked up to @atiku vehicle to exchange pleasantries with him.

“Those making an issue out of this noble gesture should have a rethink. For the life of me, are they saying if two persons know each other and are friends, they must not greet each other as mature persons again because they find themselves in opposing political parties? If that’s their thinking, this is a warped idea!”

The checks by societynow.ng revealed that indeed the rapport between Atiku and Tinubu is beyond the present.

One the biggest pointers to this is the fact that Atiku – working closely with Tinubu – was one of the founding members of the APC.

Atiku contested for and lost APC Presidential ticket for the general 2015 election to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.

He left the APC in 2017 to become the Presidential candidate of the PDP for the 2019 which he lost to President Buhari.
