The controversy over who becomes the successor of the Governor of Delta State Ifeanyi Okowa continues.

A recent attempt by the 61year old Governor whose second term in office ends in 2023 to douse the talks has further fueled them.

Okowa first elected as the Delta State Governor on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015 and re-elected on the same party in 2019 declared

“We are a party that believes that power belongs to God and that’s why we are rejoicing.

“We also believe that power belongs to the people and that the people reserve the right to make their choice.

“Some time ago, I said that power belongs to God and that only God will determine who will succeed me. I wonder why some people are angry about that statement because truly, only God knows who will take over from me

“We are one family in the PDP and those who don’t have our character are angry because we always say the truth and they are trying all means to scatter our PDP family, but they will always fail because we have bonded very well together as a party.

“Together as a family, we can continue to make things happen; together as a family we change things in our family by working hard for everyone.

“We will not work to put money in one person’s pocket, because a day will come when I will expose those of them that are angry with us,’’

The Governor who represented Delta North Senatorial District in the Senate between 2011 and 2015- according to a report monitored by societynow.ng on thenationonlineng.net – made the declaration while receiving defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP in Asaba, the state capital.

Okowa who studied Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ibadan and graduated in 1981 made the assertions in face of the talks that he is neck-deep in a supremacy battle with political leaders including former Governor James Ibori over who becomes the next Governor of Delta State.
