Demolition Notices On Daniel’s Properties Spark Fresh Political Tension In Ogun
Asoludero Court, Conference Hotels Limited, and its annex
Fresh political tensions have emerged in Ogun State after the government issued quit and demolition notices on properties linked to former governor and serving senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
According to a statement from Steve Oliyide, Daniel’s media aide, officials pasted notices on three Sagamu properties — Asoludero Court, Conference Hotels Limited, and its annex — at about 4pm on Thursday, August 8, 2025.
The documents cited the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022, with references to alleged construction without adequate permits.

Oliyide questioned the legal basis of the notices, pointing out that the properties were built in 2004, 2013, and 2015, years before the 2022 law came into effect.
He also said the issuance of contravention and quit notices on the same day bypassed procedural timelines required under the law, and argued that demolition is not an immediate penalty for alleged infractions.
The development follows the September 2023 demolition of DATKEM Plaza in Ijebu Ode, a property owned by Daniel’s wife, which the state government said breached planning regulations.
The case is still in court, with the government and the Daniels engaged in ongoing legal disputes.
Governor Abiodun and Senator Daniel, both members of the APC, have had a strained political relationship since 2020. Political observers link part of their rivalry to speculations that Abiodun is interested in the Ogun East Senate seat in 2027, which Daniel currently holds and is believed to be seeking to retain.
Daniel’s camp says it will challenge the latest notices in court, describing them as politically motivated.
The Ogun State government has not yet issued a public statement in response to the allegations.
