Why Insiders Dismissed ‘East To West’ Senate Plot Claims Around Abiodun
narrative suggests the governor may switch
Insiders have dismissed emerging “East to West” claims surrounding the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun.
The narrative suggests the governor may switch from Ogun East Senatorial District to Ogun West Senatorial District as part of a strategy to pursue a Senate seat in 2027.
Abiodun, currently serving his second term as governor of Ogun State, has throughout his political career identified with Ogun East — the district under which he holds office.
His possible Senate ambition is already stirring resistance from the incumbent lawmaker, Gbenga Daniel, a former two-term governor who is believed to be eyeing re-election.
In some quarters, the alleged shift from Ogun East to Ogun West is being framed as a political solution to the growing rivalry between Abiodun and Daniel.
However, insiders insist the claims are baseless. They argue that Abiodun is serving as governor as an indigene of Ogun East, making any attempt to position him as an Ogun West candidate for the Senate “politically impossible.”
While no prominent figure has openly backed the claim, the speculation continues to circulate in political circles. Those familiar with the state’s power dynamics describe it as either mischief or the handiwork of individuals lacking a clear understanding of Ogun’s political structure.
The speculation is particularly sensitive because Ogun West is widely regarded as marginalised, having yet to produce a governor since the state was created in 1976.
