Boxer Dropped From Olympic Team Over Romance With Coach’s Girlfriend

Emotions are running high in the Lagos camp of Olympic-bound Nigerian boxing team as the coach, Anthony Konyegwachie, and a boxer, Femi Oyeleye are fighting over a female boxer girlfriend, Kehinde Obareh.

The rivalry between Coach Konyegwachie and Oyeleye, an All Africa Games gold medalist came to the fore on Tuesday when the boxer accused his coach of dropping him from the Olympic-bound team because they are dating the same girl, Lance Corporal Kehinde Obareh, an All Africa Games gold medalist.

Oyeleye said he turned deaf ear to his coach’s entreaties to leave the female police boxer for him, explaining that the coach dropped him to settle an old score.

The 21-year-old boxer said: “Coach Konyegwachi has an issue with over my affair with Kehinde Obareh, who used to be his girlfriend, and had told me to end the affair but i refused.
“My refusal pitched me against him, and he dropped me from the camp to get even.”
