In 24 Hours: APC Lists Atiku, ADC’s Alleged Moves to Discredit Kaduna Rally
that two incidents in the preceding 24 hours formed part of a coordinated attempt
The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress, ADC, of allegedly deploying fake news and manipulated documents to discredit the party’s campaign rally in Kaduna.
The council’s spokesperson, Dele Alake, made the allegation in a statement on Saturday, claiming that two incidents in the preceding 24 hours formed part of a coordinated attempt to undermine the rally and embarrass President Bola Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other APC leaders.
According to Alake, the first incident involved a photograph of a security vehicle on routine patrol near an APC campaign billboard in Kaduna metropolis.
He alleged that the photograph was presented misleadingly to suggest that security personnel had been deployed to protect the party’s billboards.
Alake further claimed that Atiku shared a newspaper report on the incident through his official social media accounts after its publication.
The APC spokesperson also questioned the authenticity of a purported letter circulating online, allegedly written by Governor Uba Sani to the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari.
The document reportedly claimed that the Kaduna State Government released ₦2.3 trillion to host the rally.
“We are still at a loss as to how anyone can imagine and concoct this senseless and utterly baseless lie that defies logic and basic common sense,” Alake said.
He argued that the figure exceeded Kaduna State’s combined budgets for 2024, 2025 and 2026, which he put at ₦458.271 billion, ₦790.439 billion and ₦985.9 billion, respectively.
The council also alleged that old footage, doctored videos and deepfakes could be circulated during the rally to create the impression of public resentment against the APC.
“We hereby use this opportunity to alert the general public about this malicious and ignoble plan,” the statement said.
Alake urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against what he described as attempts to manipulate public opinion through artificial intelligence, fabricated documents and misleading social media content.
