Barely weeks after Governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode boosted the confidence the lagosians with the donation of multi billon naira security equipments and vehicles – plus surveillance helicopters it appears the reality on ground remains unchanged.
And a window into this assertion is provided with recent happening to Mr Michael Effiong, the Editor in Chief of Ovatio International Magazine.

Sunday December 6 2015, the master of his craft experienced firsthand the cost of entanglement in the snares of men of the world despite the trumpeted reduction in crime rate. Michael Effiong

And the episode turned out more bitter and scary for him as they took him on a robbing spree after taking over his vehicle, a Volkswagen Sports Utility Vehicle.

Ironically according to information available to societynowng.com the word smith’s ordeal Maryland, is a minute drive from the Army Cantonment and an additional 5 minutes from the Police Headquarters at Area F.

He was reportedly on his way back from Lekki, that fateful evening when he was attacked by the men of the underworld numbering about eleven.

According to narration by the victim of the nasty occurrence
‘’ “The men, numbering 11, took control of my car and after scaring other vehicles away with gunshots, drove away into Anthony where they interrogated me on the whereabouts of my ATM card,” Effiong narrated.

“I told them it was in the trunk but after a while I realized it was in a pouch I was carrying. Upon explaining to the gang leader that the card was in my possession and not in the trunk, he deemed it fit to use the butt of his gun on my face, citing deception as the reason for the attack.

“From Anthony, we moved all the way to Surulere Area where they planned on using my ATM card to withdraw funds. After confirming that the PIN I gave them was correct, they proceeded out of Surulere where they snatched another car from a woman and pummeled her for not carrying any cash.

“We were now a three vehicle convoy consisting of my car, the woman’s car and their rickety bus. On our way to Okota, the men stopped a commercial bus and robbed everyone on board, firing shots in the air while at it.

“After a while, they realized that I was still in the car and decided to drop me off at Illasa. Thankfully, they didn’t decide to kill me or anything.”

Additional revelations have it that the brutalised media man scampered home to the realisation that N200,000 had been drawn from his account.
He immediately called his bank to cancel his car – same speedy communication with the vehicle tracking company providing added security for the Volkswagen Tourag eventually located it and immobilised it at the border town of Badagry.

It was stripped bare when found.

All through the ordeal, the brand new surveillance vehicles and helicopters did not even have an idea of what was amiss, not to even talk of coming to the aid of the victims with the new mega money equipments.

Mr Effiong in communication with the societynowng.com on Thursday December 10 2015 disclosed he is still suffering from pains to the eyes, outside of the emotional trauma and material loss he is yet to get over.
