Attairu Jega, INEC Commissioners Exchange Blows At Lagos Conference!

Monday June 11 2012 till the Afternoon of Friday June 15 2012, Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and the body’s Directors and Commissioners held a workshop in Lagos.

The venue was Protea Hotel, Maryland Lagos.

Sources claimed the major agenda of the meeting was to perfect ways and manner INEC will be a better organisation.

The Chairman was said to have recommended the redeployment of certain individuals and scrapping of some department within the electoral body.

And this proved to be the bone of contention.

Alhaji Jega was openly accused of appointing his key loyalists ( from northern part of the country) to head strategic and juicy units.

He is said to have redeployed professionals from other tribe to head ‘unattractive’ departments- and to worsen the plight of the victims, majority of these branches falls into those that would be eventually scrapped!

The chairman planned to stagger the reduction of the departments.

Sources claimed most of those affected had voiced out their anger.

The INEC Chairman was openly accused of Ethnic Agenda and excessive favouritism.

The emotion reportedly rose to a point fingers were jabbed at his face.

Informants claimed attempts by the Chairman’s loyalists to defend him resulted in shoving and fist cuffs among the Directors and commissioners.

The INEC chairman was reportedly caught in the fray.

Informants claimed it took great interference from ‘outsiders’ for calm to be restored.

This particular incident transpired midweek.

Findings revealed this happenstance though later brought under control, has created a big ethnic gulf within the electoral body.

The Chairman is said to have gone ahead to effect his re appointment and deployment of the Directors and commissioners.

With plans to perfect the reduction of the departments as well.

It is not clear whether any punitive action is planned against the ‘unfavoured’ that kick started the shaming fracas at the workshop or not.
