Immediate past Minister for Interior Rauf Aregbesola has taken a new position in the politics of Osun state.

According to those in the know the former Minister has opted to grow in silence and wait for the time and chance to prove he remains a significant factor in determining the outcome of elections in the state.

Aregbesola adopted a non-threatening posture after the big stick wielded on his loyalists by the new controllers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state.

The former Governor lost control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state to the trio of Gboyega Oyetola, Ajibola Basiru, and Iyiola Omisore on the heels of a protracted supremacy fight.

The bitter fight saw Oyetola lose the election to secure a second term in office to incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

With President Bola Tinubu sworn-in as President – devoid of the contribution of Aregbesola -, Oyetola emerged as Minister, and Ajibola Basiru took over from Iyiola Omisore as the National Secretary of the APC.

The trio immediately set about consolidating their political power, stamping out dissidents within the APC – and sent a strong message to those openly siding with Aregbesola by expelling and suspending some of them.

Aregbesola and his crew have since adopted a low profile in their dealings while Basiru and his associates take total control of the APC in Osun according to those in the know.

“The Aregbesola camp may appear to be down but are surely not out. They are now growing in silence and with the ardent touch to his followers believe in him, underestimating Aregbesola and his group may prove telling when push comes to shove” a source stated.
