Organized labor – the body of workers – in Ogun State has issued a seven-day ultimatum for planned strike action to Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The ultimatum ends on Monday, July 27, 2020.

The information available to SocietyNow.Ng reveals all the things that the workers want from the Governor to stop the strike.

1, Immediate remittance of 21 months deductions. These are deductions made from workers’ salaries – based on instructions – to be passed on to other recipients such as cooperative societies or redeem bank loans. The deductions were made by the government but are not passed on to designated recipients.

2, Stop Breach of Contributory Pension Scheme: The workers assert that the arrangement of the pension scheme – backed by law – is that 7.5% of the basic salary of workers is set aside every month while the state provides a counterpart payment of the same amount. The Abiodun administration is accused of not providing the state’s counterpart payment for the past 13 months.
The organized labor wants the situation redeemed.

3, The workers want 8 years of unpaid statutory leave allowances paid. The Abiodun administration is said to owe nearly four years while the immediate past administration of Ibikunle Amosun piled the remaining debt.

4, Restore Gross Salary: The workers want the state government to make payment of gross salary a state policy to eradicate all payment-related issues.

5, The Workers want the state government to implement the adjustment on minimum pension as stipulated by the 1999 constitution.
This agitation is against the assertion that the minimum pension in the state remains N5,000.

6, Prioritize 2021 and 2022 promotion exercise: Workers alleged that the state government regards the state civil and public service as an “inconvenience” to be treated with a “negligent stance” and has “ taken the statutory exercise as though it is a favor”. The workers want better handling of the affair.

The organized labour in a letter dated “June 22 “ and signed by State Chairman NLC – Emmanuel Bankole, State Chairman TUC – Akeem Lasisi, and State chairman JNC – Isa Olude requested a dialogue with the Governor over the demands to avert the strike.

The letter of demand and notice of the planned strike was addressed to the Governor through the office of the head of service.

Organized labor claims it took the step after the state government failed to respond or acknowledge an initial letter dated June 7, 2022.

SocietyNow.Ng, gathered, that there are no indications of a truce between workers and the Ogun state government at press time.
