Tributes have poured in from across the creative landscape, with Black House Media (BHM) describing him as a visionary who transformed the live music scene in Nigeria.

Akiin Shuga dedicated over three decades to perfecting his craft, founding and leading the Shuga Band into becoming one of the nation’s most respected live acts.

His signature sound, infectious energy, and unwavering commitment to excellence redefined the live music experience, earning him respect not only from fans but also corporate partners and colleagues across the continent.

In its condolence statement, BHM said, “Akiin Shuga was a long-time friend and supporter of BHM. He was a visionary leader who loved his craft, his clients, and colleagues. He inspired millions of people across the continent.”

The global media and public relations agency added that his brilliance, warmth, infectious joy, and positive energy “which he brought to every room he entered, will be sorely missed.”

BHM, with Ayeni Adekunle as founder and Chief Executive Officer, also highlighted Akiin Shuga’s dedication to inclusion, noting, “His legacy extends beyond performance: he was a profound inspiration who transcended physical limitations to become one of Africa’s most significant artistes and a powerful advocate for inclusion through the Shuga Limb Foundation.”

The industry leader further recognized his contributions to the growth of the entertainment industry, stating, “He participated in and supported the Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NECLive) frequently, reflecting his generosity in sharing his time and talent with industry stakeholders as we worked hard to build the entertainment industry.”
