Aftermath Of Court Judgement… Opeyemi Bamidele Calls On Gov Fayemi, Oni To Work Together For Ekiti’s Growth

Federal lawmaker, Opeyemi Bamidele has called on Governor Kayode Fayemi and his predecessor, Segun Oni to put aside differences in whatever garb – and work together for growth of Ekiti state.

Former Governor Oni had instituted legal action against his succession by incumbent Fayemi via a court ordered rerun election.

The move the supreme court just declared void – and Governor Fayemi’s election affirmed.

Against the backdrop of this development, Opeyemi Bamidele – Federal law maker from Ekiti state has called on the duo to ‘bury the hatchet’ and work together for the growth of the state.

The Chairman, House Committee on Legislative Budget and Research
House of Representatives made this call via press statement released from the University Of Pretoria, South Africa, where he is currently attending an international leadership training workshop.

Here is a reproduction of the statement unedited

‘I Congratulate His Excellency, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Governor of Ekiti State on the outcome of the suit before the Supreme Court.

No doubt, the judgement is a victory for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and a quantum leap for our legal process and the growth of our democracy.

‘In the same vein, I wish to commend His Excellency, Engr. Segun Oni for reposing his confidence in the judicial process as the credible alternative to street action and for his doggedness in pursuing his grievances to a logical conclusion.

Now that the highest Court of the land has finally laid this matter to rest, my patriotic call on behalf of well meaning Ekiti sons and daughters as well as stakeholders of our democracy, will be to encourage His Excellency, Engr. Segun Oni, to join hands with the administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi in addressing the critical needs of Ekiti people in ensuring good governance, massive job creation, continued infrastructural development, quality education and health care services, agrarian revolution and the growth of Ekiti economy, among other much desired dividends of democracy.

‘I, equally, call on His Excellency, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, to jettison the idea of instituting a probe into the programmes and activities of Engr. Segun Oni administration.

Tempting as this might sound, it will be much more distracting than even the law suit. This is moreso when one realises that Ekiti politics in the last decade has been characterized with vindictiveness and retaliatory policies and attitudes that have ended up placing the State in a Barber’s chair which goes round and round
ad infinitum without actually moving the State any inch forward.

‘The truth which must be told about Ekiti is that in the last 17 years of her creation, many things have happened which had led to her stunted growth and disappointment of the founding fathers and well meaning citizens of the State, many of whom have become heart broken and frustrated.

Beyond rhetorics, this is definitely the time to bury the hatchet and ensure that all hands are on deck to save Ekiti from becoming a failed State. Regardless of our political affiliation and ideological divides, this is the time for all of us to work together to heal the broken hearts and create a NEW and UNITED Ekiti. United we STAND as a people, divided we FALL. Time to heal Ekiti is NOW!’
