Ogun 2027: Alake Reveals Adebutu’s Egba Roots, Gives PDP Team Royal Blessing
reaffirming the family’s historical connection to Egbaland
The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Oludotun Aremu Gbadebo, on Sunday received the Ogun State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oladipupo Adebutu, alongside other party candidates and leaders, where he highlighted Adebutu’s ancestral ties to Egbaland and offered royal blessings ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Adebutu was accompanied by the PDP deputy governorship candidate, Lateefat Oyeyemi Sowunmi-Kolapo; the Ogun Central senatorial candidate, Iyabo Obasanjo; other candidates; and party leaders during the visit to the Alake and the Egba Traditional Council.
According to a statement issued after the visit, the monarch described the occasion as significant, noting that it marked a homecoming for the PDP governorship candidate.
The statement quoted the Alake as tracing Adebutu’s family roots to Egbaland.
“His great grandfather, Pa. Alimi Adebutu, lived and was buried at Ijeun Akoni in Odeda Local Government Area,” the monarch said, reaffirming the family’s historical connection to Egbaland.
The statement said the visit also provided an opportunity for the royal father and members of the Egba Traditional Council to pray for the PDP candidates as political activities gather momentum in the state.
It added that the royal audience underscored “the importance of preserving cultural heritage while fostering unity and peaceful engagement ahead of the forthcoming elections.”
The visit comes as political parties intensify consultations and stakeholder engagements ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship and legislative elections.
