Fresh talks are making the rounds about the raging political feud between the Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, and state Governor Dapo Abiodun.

“Their supporters are going to take off their gloves and engage in more open confrontations. It is going to get messier,” is the theme of emerging narratives about the discord between the two leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.

The Governor and the Senator are engulfed in a political conflict turned personal fight, now decorated with claims that Abiodun is making moves to take over Daniel’s position in the Red Chamber.

The conflict has defied peace overtures from different sectors, even from leaders in the political district they share.

They have refused to meet and shy away from attending the same public events.

“It appears there is no going back in the political fight, and foot soldiers are about to start proving loyalty as the election gets near,” according to information at hand.

Abiodun

The next general election is in 2027, and politicians across the country have started intense positioning to win desired positions — Ogun State is no different.

Daniel, a former two-term Governor of Ogun State who was part of the coalition that helped Abiodun to power in 2019, wants a second term as Senator representing Ogun East. He needs to achieve this aim to sustain his standing as a decision-maker and owner of one of the most formidable political structures in the state.

Abiodun leaves office in 2027 at the end of his second term. A senatorial seat helps not just to keep him politically relevant but to establish him as a new power.
