Fresh speculation surrounding the political future of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, was reignited on Thursday, July 24, as long-serving federal lawmaker Wole Oke shared insights suggesting the governor may still be weighing a possible move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oke, who recently switched allegiance from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said emerging developments from within the Osun political landscape indicate that Governor Adeleke has not completely shelved the idea of defecting to the APC.

“From the grapevine, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Executive Governor of Osun State, has not abandoned the defection to APC project. He is back to the drawing table,” Oke revealed, citing insider conversations and recent meetings within the Osun PDP.

He cautioned aspirants within the APC not to become complacent, noting that Adeleke’s potential entry into the party could change the calculus. “For APC gubernatorial aspirants, it’s not yet huhuru. Do not let off your guard. APC is very attractive. HE may actually join APC not on his own terms but at the invitation of APC Osun leaders.”

According to Oke, a trusted associate who attended a recent PDP stakeholders’ meeting at the Osun Government House in Osogbo claimed that Governor Adeleke reportedly admitted that “winning the next gubernatorial election will be nearly impossible on the platform of the PDP.”

Referencing the governor’s appearance at the PDP meeting held in Abuja, Oke hinted that the moves could be tactical and non-committal, perhaps aimed at buying time or testing the waters. “If I were HE, I would remain in PDP or join a relatively unpopular party like APP and show my popularity and strength. It’s not compulsory that I should win, after all, I have been a governor,” he added.

He also issued a cautionary note to members of the State House of Assembly, advising restraint over discussions of impeachment. “Please be careful with the word impeachment. It’s not a word that is carelessly used. Though it’s in our constitution, it’s a huge task,” he urged.

In a pointed observation, Oke predicted a shift in the political alignment of the state legislature. “It’s just a question of time. Sixty-five per cent, if not more, of OSHA members will defect to the APC. They were not elected into the House by the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Hon. Egbedun, or by HE Sen. Ademola Adeleke, but by the electorates in active support of their leaders who have now moved to the APC.”

While no official statement has come from the governor’s office, Thursday’s comments by Oke have added a fresh twist to the evolving political permutations in Osun, where the battle lines for the 2026 governorship election are already being drawn.
