Former Governor Ibikunle Amosun has once again become the man everyone is talking about in Ogun State politics, as speculation about his return to the Senate gathers serious momentum.

What began as whispers has grown into a full-blown conversation, fanned by loyalists who are pushing the narrative with unusual intensity.

Their latest move — splashing social media with colourful e-posters declaring Amosun’s ambition — has given the talks new weight and sparked heated debates across the state.

Yet, the man at the centre of it all remains silent.

“SIA (Senator Ibikunle Amosun) has not said anything about whether he wants to return to the Senate or not,” a top-level source confirmed.

For Amosun, a Senate seat is familiar territory. He first served between 2003 and 2007 before going on to govern Ogun State for two terms, from 2011 to 2019. He returned to the Senate in 2019 but opted out of the 2023 race, instead making a daring bid for the APC presidential ticket. Though he eventually stepped down, he was a key figure in rallying support for the eventual winner, now President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The current occupant of the Ogun Central seat, Senator Afolabi Salisu, rose on the back of his influence as Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Chief of Staff.

But with shifting political winds and a changing balance of power in Ogun, insiders say his hold on the seat is weakened.

Party strategists believe the tide is moving in Amosun’s favour.

With President Tinubu pressing for unity ahead of the 2027 elections and determined to deliver a sweeping Southwest victory, many within the APC argue that Amosun’s return would bolster the party’s strength in Ogun.

“The senatorial ticket is likely heading to Amosun’s camp as part of wider realignments to secure the state for 2027,” one insider revealed.

Amosun’s enduring political clout cannot be ignored. He is seen as one of the most formidable players in Ogun Central, commanding a structure that ranks among the top four in the state.

For now, he maintains a deliberate silence that some term as “pregnant “.
