The 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is happening at the United States of America (USA).

Prominent champion of entrepreneurship in Africa, Tony Elumelu, will be playing a frontline role at the event, which runs from Tuesday, September 24, 2024, to Saturday, September 28, 2024.

The leading philanthropist “will be convening and joining global leaders in a series of high-profile meetings” at the September assembly.

The decorated investor shared three things he is looking forward to at the 79th UNGA in a “teaser” announcing the beginning of the podcast named “Africa and Everywhere: Conversations With Oge”—his daughter.

Oge, who disclosed that the first episode of the podcast will be about UNGA, asked her role-model father the top three things he is looking forward to at the UN Assembly.

The prominent—and passionate—advocate of Africapitalism, the economic principle that positions the private sector, and most importantly, entrepreneurs, as the catalyst for social and economic development of the African continent, declared he is looking forward to discussing three important topics with global leaders.

He listed them as: transformative economic growth in Africa, so that we eradicate poverty and create prosperity for all; secondly, making sure that we create employment for our young ones. “We need to stop wasting our talent on the continent”; and thirdly, discussing equitable energy transition that is beneficial for Africa.

He added following Conversations With Oge during the exchange in a video on the social media handle of the chief campaigner for a better Africa.

Checks revealed that the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF)—the leading philanthropy that has disbursed over $100 million USD and provided funding, mentoring, and capacity-building support to more than 20,000 young entrepreneurs across Africa, creating over 400,000 direct and indirect jobs—will be making strong cases for a better continent at the 79th UNGA. He will be participating at platforms including the UBA Networking Gala, the Clinton Global Initiative, and the TEF-World Food Programme High-Level Session.

The UBA Networking Gala, described as a networking event on the sidelines of UNGA, is a forum to showcase investment opportunities in Africa, putting Africans and those interested in the continent in the same place. It highlights the role of UBA as a key financial link between Africa and the world, while also signposting the ongoing 75th anniversary of UBA Group and the 40th year of UBA America’s operations.

Participation in the Clinton Global Initiative will see Elumelu share the value-offering in Africa at a roundtable discussion with former President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton, and a select group of global leaders.

At the TEF-World Food Programme High-Level Session, the global campaigner of shared prosperity in Africa will join the Executive Director of the World Food Programme, Cindy McCain, at an exclusive event with the World Food Programme and the Tony Elumelu Foundation as co-hosts. The aim is to explain the needs of the continent with the goal of securing solution-enabling partnerships.
