Tinubu Outraged, Sends Army To Hunt Kaiama Terrorists
described the assault as “cowardly and beastly,”
President Bola Tinubu has ordered the deployment of a battalion of the Nigerian Army to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, following a deadly overnight attack by Boko Haram terrorists that left several villagers in Worro dead.
The President described the assault as “cowardly and beastly,” targeting defenceless citizens who refused to abandon peaceful Islamic practices for extremist ideologies.
Speaking on the crisis, Tinubu said the military operation, dubbed Operation Savannah Shield, would ensure that communities in the region are protected from further attacks.
“These gunmen are heartless, preying on soft targets in a campaign of terror that cannot be tolerated. The Army will bring them to justice,” the Nigerian leader stated.
The President commended the courage of the community members who resisted extremist indoctrination, even as it cost them their lives.
“It is commendable that the people, though Muslims, rejected a perverse ideology that promotes violence over peace. Their bravery must be honoured,” he added.
In addition to military intervention, the President called for close collaboration between federal and state agencies to provide relief to survivors and ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable.
“We must ensure that those responsible for these atrocities do not escape justice. The government will spare no effort in providing succour to affected families,” Tinubu emphasized.
The President concluded by praying for the repose of the deceased and offering condolences to their families, the people of Kwara State, and the state government.
“Our hearts go out to those who lost loved ones in this senseless attack. May their souls rest in peace,” he said.
The deployment of troops to Kaiama marks the latest in a series of federal government responses aimed at curbing the activities of Boko Haram and protecting communities in the North-Central region from extremist violence.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed that Operation Savannah Shield had begun immediately following the directive.
