It is no longer news that Folake Ani-Mumuney, the global head of marketing and corporate communications at First Bank, has retired.

Away from the public interest and speculations about how she exited after a 15-year spell, it is as clear as day that her stint has been pivotal for the flagship subsidiary of FBN Holdings.

Multiple sources confirmed that she redefined marketing and communications within the bank, helping to cement its reputation as a leader in the nation’s financial sector.

Backed by top-level experience in organizations like British Airways and Dangote Group, where she managed portfolios across continents, Ani-Mumuney was instrumental in shaping First Bank’s brand strategy across subsidiaries, including investment banking, insurance, and pension management.

Her services were so highly rated that it didn’t come as a surprise to many when she was appointed to the Board of FBN Brokers Ltd in 2017.

Findings revealed that the seasoned marketer and communicator modeled the environmental, social, and governance framework of First Bank to the point of formidability.

“Under her direction, First Bank supported renewable energy projects, funded solar energy solutions, and launched tree-planting campaigns, reflecting its commitment to sustainability,” sources say.

Additional information revealed that beyond her professional contributions, Ani-Mumuney was massively involved in advocacy for gender equity and mentorship, actively supporting women professionals through organizations like WISCAR and WimBiz.

She is a former board member of WISCAR (Women in Successful Careers), where she contributed in no small measure to advancing women’s careers in the workplace.

Her role as the first female president of the Advertisers Association of Nigeria (ADVAN) further underscored her pioneering leadership in promoting diversity and inclusion, sources say.

With an impact that extended globally, she leveraged her experience from previous roles managing portfolios in Europe, Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom to enhance First Bank’s strategic initiatives.

In a career spanning over 25 years and decorated with numerous accolades and awards, it is generally affirmed that Ani-Mumuney left an enduring legacy in marketing innovation, sustainability, and leadership development—not just at First Bank but across the larger FBN Holdings.
