There are strong indicators that Akinwunmi Ambode may return as the Governor of Lagos State after Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s exit in 2027, insiders insist.

Those in the know say there are increasing talks of the possibility at the very top echelon of the powerbrokers who dictate the politics of Lagos State.

Available information indicates that the former governor is being considered by the main “decision maker” in Lagos politics, along with a “very unusual candidate.”

“Both of them are males. The other person has been massively touted as a possible next governor,” sources say.

Additional information reveals that, although the claims remain largely speculative, the calibre of those involved in the discussions is making many take the possibility very seriously.

Ambode reconciled with Tinubu ahead of the 2023 election that transformed the political leader into the President of Nigeria.

Although he remained behind the scenes, the ex-governor quietly began reawakening his political support base after the truce.

He has largely stayed out of the public glare—except for one or two state functions—since then.

Credited with massive infrastructural development during his tenure, he remains the only Lagos State governor to have served a single term since the return of democracy in 1999.
