Talks As Amaechi Plans Power-Loaded 60th Birthday On Saturday
described as a two-part event scheduled to hold in Abuja
Former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has just clocked 60 years old.
He was born on May 27, 1965.
However, he has shifted the main celebration to Saturday, May 31, 2025.
Insiders say the politician, who has been hobnobbing with opposition elements ahead of the 2027 general election, plans to use the opportunity to make a major political statement.
The celebration is described as a two-part event scheduled to hold in Abuja.
“There will be a birthday lecture in the morning and a birthday gala later in the day,” according to those in the know.
Sources confirm that Amaechi has invited various categories of politicians, including former House of Assembly speakers from across the country—many of whom he served with during his time as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from June 1999 to June 2007.
Information available indicates that guests attending the 60th birthday celebration of the former Minister of Transportation (August 2019 to May 2022) are expected at the birthday lecture themed “Weaponization of Poverty as a Means of Underdevelopment: A Case Study of Nigeria”, scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Ladi Kwali Hall of Abuja Continental Hotel (formerly Sheraton Hotel).
The Birthday Gala is slated for 7 p.m. at the Transcorp Centre, Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
“Although the President is expected to send a representative, whispers suggest that the guest list and anticipated activities at the celebration are geared towards making a strong political statement,” insiders hint.
Amaechi, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has become estranged from the top hierarchy of the party—particularly President Bola Tinubu—over an “unusual political arrangement” that empowered Nyesom Wike, a chieftain of the rival People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to retain control of political power in Rivers State.
The development has completely sidelined Amaechi, a former two-term governor of the state, who is now embroiled in a political face-off turned personal feud with Wike.
Notably, Amaechi and Wike once enjoyed a close rapport, with Wike serving in his administration and later succeeding him as governor, before political interests turned them into bitter enemies.
The former Minister is said to be sparing no expense—including lodging for guests—to make his 60th birthday celebration a memorable and symbolic affair.
