PDP Expels Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, Others At Ibadan Convention
as its 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo state, ratified the expulsion
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) moved decisively on Saturday as its 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo state, ratified the expulsion of several high-profile members accused of sustained anti-party activities.
Those affected include Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory under the current administration; Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former national secretary; Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); former Ekiti governor Ayo Fayose; and Hon. Austin Nwachukwu. A number of other members were also removed in what insiders described as one of the party’s most far-reaching disciplinary actions in recent years.
According to the party, the resolution was adopted by an overwhelming majority of delegates eager to restore unity and discipline ahead of the 2027 general elections. PDP leaders said the expulsions were necessary to reassert the party’s identity and to halt the internal sabotage that has dogged its electoral chances in previous cycles.
Convention officials said the move was aimed at sending a clear signal that no member, regardless of standing, would be permitted to undermine collective decisions or openly fraternise with rival political interests. Senior figures within the party noted that the expelled members had been repeatedly warned but allegedly continued to engage in conduct that ran contrary to PDP’s objectives.
The party said the decision forms part of a broader rebuilding strategy that includes repositioning its structures nationwide, resolving factional disputes, and reestablishing loyalty to its organs. Delegates at the convention were said to have welcomed the action as a step towards putting the party “back on the rails” as it prepares for what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2027 election cycle.
Further details on the convention’s resolutions are expected.
