First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians to refrain from speaking ill of the country, urging citizens instead to pray, speak positively, and hold on to hope as the nation works its way out of economic difficulty and insecurity.

In a message shared on her social media pages on Friday, the former senator said national progress is strengthened when citizens choose optimism over despair. “Never speak ill of your country. Pray for it, speak positively about it, and always choose positivity,” she wrote.

The remarks come at a time the federal government is intensifying reforms aimed at revamping the economy after years of dwindling growth, foreign exchange instability, and rising living costs.

President Bola Tinubu has continued to push through structural changes in public finance, investment incentives, and security operations as part of efforts to stabilise the country.

The First Lady, who has remained active in community-building and humanitarian interventions since assuming office, has also been involved in programmes designed to complement the administration’s recovery agenda—particularly through her Renewed Hope Initiative, which targets women’s empowerment, youth development, agricultural support, and social welfare.

The former federal lawmaker’s message aligns with the presidency’s push for renewed confidence in the country, especially as security agencies record significant breakthroughs in dismantling criminal networks, reducing terrorism incidents, and restoring safer travel on major corridors. The administration has repeatedly argued that optimism and unity are vital to sustaining the momentum of ongoing reforms.

Supporters of the First Lady say her call reflects her longstanding belief—dating back to her years in the senate—that nation-building requires collective responsibility, moral encouragement, and shared commitment.

As the government pushes to attract investment, increase production, and rebuild public trust, the former Senator urged Nigerians to remain steadfast.

Her message, brief but emphatic, echoes a broader sentiment within the presidency: that Nigeria’s recovery demands not only policy action but also the positive engagement of its people.
