As part of activities to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, the Federal Government is set to honour 250 exceptional Nigerians drawn from various sectors for their contributions to nation building through innovation, patriotism, and service.

At the official flag-off ceremony for the Compendium of 250 Top Performers in Nigeria, held in collaboration with OyanaHealth Limited, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, described the initiative as a historic and inspiring project. He noted that it aims to spotlight individuals whose resilience and achievements embody the Nigerian spirit.

“This initiative presents a timely opportunity to reflect, project and celebrate the values of resilience and innovation that define the Nigerian spirit,” Akume stated.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary overseeing the General Services Office, Mallam Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, the SGF emphasized that the compendium would showcase Nigeria’s rich human capital and serve as a motivating symbol for the youth to aspire for excellence.

He added that it also underscores the nation’s ongoing efforts to strengthen unity and foster development.

According to him, the compendium will also highlight key achievements of the Federal Government and recognise 11 top-performing State Governors who have distinguished themselves through impactful leadership.

The initiative is expected to include a variety of activities such as a national quiz competition, exhibitions of innovation and creativity, a music concert, and the rendition of patriotic songs celebrating Nigeria’s enduring hope and potential.

The Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office, Nadungu Gagare, underscored the importance of the compendium as a record of national excellence and a strategy for reshaping narratives about Nigeria. He noted that it would serve as both a source of inspiration and a recognition of outstanding contributions to governance and national image.

Speaking earlier, the convener and CEO of OyanaHealth Ltd, Jennifer Chinyelu Obiasor, said the project, themed “Nigeria Celebrates,” will spotlight Nigerians at home and abroad who have blazed trails in medicine, business, sports, entertainment, technology, diplomacy, and other fields.

She emphasized that the compendium seeks to celebrate Nigerians making meaningful impacts globally, and to encourage a culture of honouring excellence and patriotism.

The celebration and publication of the compendium are scheduled to culminate on October 1, 2025, as part of the country’s Independence Day festivities.
