Loyalists Tell Reasons Oyetola’s Son, Femi Should Become House Of Reps Member
arguing that the move has become a strategic political necessity
Supporters and loyalists of former Osun State governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, have intensified calls for his son, Femi Oyetola, to contest for the House of Representatives, arguing that the move has become a strategic political necessity rather than a personal ambition.
In growing conversations across political circles in Osun State, loyalists say the presence of an Oyetola on the ballot could significantly energise the party’s base, particularly in Osun Central, where grassroots mobilisation remains crucial to electoral success.
Loyalists argue that the Oyetola political structure still commands loyalty in Osun Central.
According to them, having Femi Oyetola on the ballot could trigger a surge in voter turnout, especially among younger voters who view him as a symbol of emerging leadership within the progressive fold.
Supporters note that Boripe Local Government Area remains one of the most dependable strongholds of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State.
They point to the results of the 2023 Nigerian presidential election where the APC candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, secured more than 15,000 votes in the council area, compared to fewer than 9,000 votes recorded by the Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The People pushing the agenda say the margin demonstrates Boripe’s reliability as a decisive political base when effectively mobilised.
The loyalists also highlight Iragbiji, headquarters of Boripe LGA, as a community with a long-standing culture of loyalty to progressive politics.
They recall that during the 2022 Osun State gubernatorial election, Adegboyega Oyetola recorded a landslide victory in Iragbiji, reinforcing the area’s reputation as a dependable political stronghold.
Supporters argue that Femi Oyetola has organically emerged as one of the most influential youth political figures in Osun State.
Included is the claim that many politically active young people across the state privately regard him as a rallying point, even if they do not always express their support publicly due to existing political alignments.
According to loyalists, Boripe remains one of the most logical zones within the district to produce the next major political figure.
They argue that among the younger generation from the area, Femi Oyetola stands out as one of the most visible, prepared and politically connected individuals capable of representing the constituency.
Supporters say his potential candidacy could help bridge the generational gap in Osun politics.
They insist that Nigeria’s political landscape is gradually shifting towards younger voters who desire leaders that understand their economic realities, social aspirations and technological outlook.
Another reason cited by loyalists is his perceived ability to mobilise support across wards and communities. They note that elections in the current political environment are no longer determined solely by party structures but also by influence, grassroots networks and the ability to inspire voters.
The loyalists also believe the moment presents a rare convergence of grassroots goodwill, youth enthusiasm and political opportunity.
They argue that ignoring such momentum could be politically unwise for the progressive camp in Osun.
For many of his loyalists, the message remains simple: Femi Oyetola’s potential candidacy, they say, is not merely about personal ambition but about strengthening the political base of Boripe, energising young voters and consolidating progressive politics in Osun Central.
