Let Us Use This Period To Strengthen Our Bond – Tinubu Urges As Ramadan Begins
emphasizing the importance of the month in the Islamic faith
As Muslims across Nigeria and the world begin the sacred month of Ramadan, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for unity, reflection, and compassion, urging Nigerians to use the period to strengthen their bond with God and one another.
In a personally signed statement released on February 28, 2025, President Tinubu congratulated the Muslim faithful on witnessing another Ramadan season, emphasizing the importance of the month in the Islamic faith.
“We are profoundly grateful to Almighty Allah for granting us the grace to witness the commencement of this holy month, a cornerstone of the Islamic faith,” he said. “May this fasting and devotion period be marked by good health, spiritual fulfillment, and divine blessings.”
The President highlighted Ramadan as a time for self-discipline, piety, and acts of generosity toward others, particularly the less privileged. He urged Muslims to embrace the values of humility and selflessness, noting that the essence of Ramadan extends beyond personal spirituality to fostering unity and peace in communities.
“This is a season of spiritual rejuvenation and empathy,” Tinubu stated. “Let us use this period to strengthen our bonds with Allah and one another, fostering unity and peace in our communities.”
Linking the spiritual significance of Ramadan to the nation’s progress, Tinubu acknowledged that this year’s fasting season coincides with a time of renewed hope for Nigeria. He noted that his administration’s economic policies were beginning to yield positive results, citing improvements in GDP, a decline in food prices, and the stabilizing exchange rate as signs of progress.
“The Gross Domestic Product for the last quarter of 2024 showed a marked improvement over the same period in 2023,” he said. “The once-soaring prices of essential food items are now downward, providing much-needed relief to our fasting population and all Nigerians. The exchange rate is stabilizing, and fuel prices are declining, signaling a brighter future.”
On food security, the President reassured Nigerians that efforts to enhance agricultural productivity were ongoing, with targeted support for farmers through mechanization and innovative initiatives.
“As the wet season approaches, we remain steadfast in boosting agricultural productivity,” he stated. “We are determined to enhance food production and ensure self-sufficiency and food security for all Nigerians.”
Tinubu concluded his message by calling on Nigerians to pray for the nation’s continued progress and to let their actions reflect a collective commitment to peace, unity, and development.
“I extend my heartfelt wishes to all Muslims observing Ramadan for a month filled with joy, peace, and spiritual renewal,” he said. “May the blessings of this holy month illuminate our hearts and homes, and may we emerge from it as better individuals and a stronger nation.”
