Kwankwaso Sends ‘Telling’ Message To Gov Abba Yusuf

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has marked the birthday of Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, with a message that combined personal warmth with subtle political signalling, coming amid renewed speculation over the governor’s political future.

In the message, Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), reflected on what he described as a long and shared political journey with Yusuf, tracing his rise through several key positions in government.

He recalled that Yusuf first served as his personal assistant during his first term and later while he was a minister, before becoming principal private assistant and commissioner during his second tenure as governor of Kano State.

“On this day, I appreciate the birthday of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf,” Kwankwaso said, adding that the governor’s years in public service were shaped by “the vision and programmes we pursued for the development of Kano State.”

Kwankwaso said Yusuf’s evolution from a trusted aide to the state’s chief executive was built on experience and continuity, noting that their collaboration spanned multiple administrations and responsibilities.

The political leader prayed that the governor’s new year would be marked by wisdom, good health and clarity of purpose.

The message has attracted wider political attention against the backdrop of recent claims that Yusuf is being wooed by the All Progressives Congress (APC), with reports suggesting a possible defection.

Kwankwaso has openly opposed such a move, insisting that Yusuf remains a product of the NNPP political structure and the broader Kwankwasiyya movement that swept the party to victory in Kano in the 2023 governorship election.

By publicly revisiting their shared political history, observers say Kwankwaso appeared to underline the roots of Yusuf’s mandate and the party platform that brought him to power.
